Our take

The walk-around formula is old and unglamorous, and it survives because nothing beats it for a family that also fishes: side decks wide enough to walk the whole perimeter, a bow cockpit you can actually use, and a self-draining aft deck you can hose out. Michael Peters — better known for offshore racing hulls — drew a deep-V that stays planted at 30 knots and takes a chop without punishing anyone, and Jeanneau hung up to 500 horsepower of outboard on the transom. Two cabins and four berths make weekends possible rather than merely conceivable. It is one of the most common boats in French Mediterranean marinas for a reason: it does the school-holiday day trip, the dawn fishing session and the overnight to an anchorage without being obviously compromised at any of them.

Worth noting

  • True walk-around deck, full perimeter access
  • Michael Peters deep-V, planted in a chop
  • Up to 500 hp on the transom
  • Two cabins, four berths — weekends included
