Our take

The Magellano 60 took over as the entry point to Azimut's crossover range when it was shown at Cannes in September 2023. Ken Freivokh gave it the teak louvres and near-vertical stem that now read as Magellano signatures, but the consequential decision sits below the waterline: a second-generation Dual Mode hull, twin chines and a central skeg, drawn here by Profjord with Azimut's own engineering office rather than by Bill Dixon, who shaped the dual-mode hulls of the first Magellanos. It does what it claims. An independent test recorded about 30 litres an hour at 8.5 knots — better than 800 miles of range — before the boat lifts to a genuine 26 knots. The compromises are equally real: beam stops at 5.15 metres, so interior volume comes from packaging rather than width; the hull pitches noticeably at trawler speeds unless a gyro is fitted; and certification stops at CE category B, an odd footnote on a yacht sold on distance. Used boats remain scarce and trade close to new prices.

Worth noting

  • Aft galley opening directly onto the cockpit
  • Glazed "infinity terrace" bulwark across the transom
  • Second helm on a hardtop-covered flybridge
  • Demonstrated at Cannes running on HVO biofuel
