Our take
The Oceanis 46.1 is the boat that made the hard chine mainstream on a cruising monohull. Finot-Conq pushed the maximum beam aft and carried it to the transom, which buys an enormous aft cabin pair and a cockpit you can seat eight in — and, less obviously, form stability that lets the boat stand up to its sail plan without a deep bulb. Three keel options and an optional First Line package with taller rig and laminate sails mean the same hull serves a Croatian charter fleet and an owner who actually races club regattas. Below, the volume is startling for 46 feet, though the price is a hull shape that slams upwind in a short sea and a saloon that moves about at heel. As a family cruiser between Corsica and the Balearics, or as the backbone of a charter fleet, it is very hard to argue against — which is why several hundred have been built.
Worth noting
- Chined hull carried aft — exceptional volume and form stability
- Three keel drafts and an optional performance rig
- Three to five cabins: owner's boat or charter platform
- Deep second-hand market, predictable resale
