Lagoon 42

The Lagoon 42 is the boat that carried the catamaran boom of the late 2010s: around a thousand hulls left Bordeaux between 2016 and its replacement by the Lagoon 43. The VPLP-drawn platform introduced the generation's signature ingredients — chined bows, a mast stepped further aft with a self-tacking jib, and a beam-to-length ratio favouring the owner's suite and the famous forward-facing galley. It is not a fast boat; polars matter less here than the flow between cockpit, saloon and helm station, which few rivals matched at the price. The programme is coastal cruising and tropical charter, with enough reserve for an Atlantic circuit at trade-wind pace. On the used market the 42 behaves like a currency: liquid, stable in value, easy to charter out. As a first big catamaran or a management-programme boat, it remains the default answer — which is precisely its achievement.
