Our take

The Leopard 45 distils what a decade of charter abuse teaches a builder. Robertson and Caine's boats live hard lives in Moorings and Sunsail fleets, and the 45 was engineered accordingly: foam-cored infused laminates, chunky hardware, systems laid out for maintenance rather than for the boat-show walkthrough. Simonis Voogd gave it stepped hulls with decent fine entry, and the boat sails respectably for its 15-plus tonnes, though the fixed keels and charter payload keep ambitions honest. Its signature is the forward cockpit with direct saloon door — Leopard had it before most rivals — plus a raised lounging deck over the hardtop on later builds. Many hulls reach Europe or the Caribbean on their own bottoms from Cape Town, a delivery régime that doubles as proof of seaworthiness. Superseded by the Leopard 46 in 2024, it remains one of the safest used-catamaran buys in the size, provided the charter history is documented.

Worth noting

  • Forward cockpit with direct saloon access
  • Foam-cored infused build, charter-grade systems
  • Ocean deliveries from Cape Town on its own bottom
  • Deep spares and service network via Moorings/Sunsail
