Excess Catamarans
Groupe Beneteau's younger catamaran brand, chasing genuine sailing sensations without renouncing cruising volume.
The story
Excess was unveiled by Groupe Beneteau at the 2019 Cannes show as a second catamaran brand, aimed at sailors left cold by Lagoon's volume-first formula. The first models, the Excess 12 and 15, sat on adapted existing platforms; the promise of sportiness ran ahead of the reality, and the sailing press said so. The brand's identity — aft twin helms, low-slung coachroofs, a deliberately younger tone — was nonetheless set.
The second generation answered the critics. The VPLP-drawn Excess 14, launched in 2023, brought finer entries, a taller rig, real weight discipline and options such as a carbon mast — a catamaran conceived for its purpose rather than adapted to it. The smaller Excess 11 became a quiet bestseller. Built in Bordeaux alongside Lagoon, Excess now stands as the group's credible answer to Nautitech and Outremer.
