Nautitech 46 Open

For seven years the 46 Open sat at the top of the Nautitech range, from its 2016 launch at the La Grande Motte multihull show to the end of production in 2023, when the 48 Open took over. Marc Lombard scaled up the reasoning behind the 40 Open: slim hulls, a low coachroof, restrained windage, and the twin wheels set right at the aft end of each hull, where the helmsman watches the masthead and the leeward bow instead of a screen. Galley, saloon and cockpit sit on one level. At 10.8 tonnes light for 13.79 metres, it keeps sailing in conditions where comparable volume catamarans start an engine, which makes it a credible boat for a family ocean crossing. The trade-offs are plain: less stowage and interior volume than a Lagoon 46, no flybridge, and twin 40-horsepower diesels that are barely adequate motoring into a chop. Secondhand it sells slowly and dearly, to buyers who know precisely what they want.
