Our take

The 55 is the boat that moved Outremer from niche builder to the reference for fast bluewater cruising: European Yacht of the Year 2022, then Multihull of the Year, and an order book that pushed delivery out by several years. VPLP drew the hulls, Patrick le Quément the silhouette and Franck Darnet the interior, around a single constraint — 13.9 tonnes light on 16.73 metres, four to five tonnes less than a charter catamaran of the same length. Daggerboards lift the draft to 1.20 m and drop it to 2.50 m for windward work. The programme is a family circumnavigation, with 250-mile days within reach and twin outside helms that oblige you to come on deck. It is not a charter platform: payload is counted, tankage and electrics have to be managed rather than ignored, and the entry price sits above a 60-foot monohull. Used, 2021-2023 boats resell between €1.6m and €2.1m — above what they originally cost.
